At Subang Jaya Medical Centre's Heart, Vascular, and Thoracic Department, we offer advanced treatment options to address coronary artery disease (CAD) and restore blood flow to your heart. One of the key procedures we perform is Stent Insertion, a minimally invasive technique that helps open narrowed or blocked coronary arteries and improve blood flow.
During a Stent Insertion procedure, a thin, expandable metal tube called a stent is inserted into the narrowed or blocked coronary artery. The stent is mounted on a deflated balloon and guided to the site of the blockage using a catheter. Once in position, the balloon is inflated, expanding the stent and pressing it against the artery walls, effectively opening the artery and restoring blood flow.
1. Restoring Blood Flow: Stent Insertion aims to improve blood flow to the heart by opening narrowed or blocked coronary arteries. The stent helps prevent further blockages by propping the artery open and reducing the risk of heart attacks and related complications.
2. Minimally Invasive Procedure: Stent Insertion is a minimally invasive alternative to traditional open-heart surgery. The procedure typically involves a small incision, a short hospital stay, and a faster recovery time than open-heart surgery.
3.Preventing Restenosis: In some cases, a drug-eluting stent, coated with medications that help prevent the re-narrowing of the artery (restenosis), may be used. This specialised stent releases the medication gradually, reducing the chances of future blockages within the stent and improving long-term outcomes. One should however strictly control the cardiovascular risk factors (such as blood pressure, blood cholesterol levels, etc) to prevent further new blockages from developing.
At SJMC, our experienced interventional cardiologists and specialised medical team perform Stent Insertion procedures with precision and expertise. We utilise state-of-the-art technology and follow best practices to ensure optimal outcomes and patient satisfaction.
